A BETTER GROUP PHOTO!

Rick Vogel, Alex Vogel, Bennett Katz (red hat), Jim Schillinger, Coach Sean and Peter Schillinger!

This is the best photo though... although it does seem to appear that Peter is thinking about his next move for that game in front of him! : P

CONGRATULATIONS BENNETT and PETER!

Rick Vogel, Alex Vogel, BENNETT KATZ, Coach Sean and PETER SCHILLINGER!

Our two player team of Peter and Bennett took first place TEAM in the K-3 CHAMP section of the SCOTTSDALE CLASSIC! held on Saturday the March 27th, 2010. Way to go Peter and Bennett - they brought a first place team trophy to CHEROKEE! And if you wondering what this trophy looks like then just take a look at the next picture...

BENNETT & PETER'S 1st PLACE TEAM TROPHY!

I look forward to their next event together - they are both getting better all of the time! When they both play and practice... well then, watch out chess world!

Today Peter had Alexander Vogel beaten not once but at two different times during their ASCF rated Super Group game... it was a fantastic struggle. In the end a draw was achieved - but Peter had the upper hand in the final position and BOTH players were below ten seconds time remaining on their clocks! Wow - talk about excitement! Peter and Bennett will do even better at their next event together as a team! But only if Bennett gets in the three hours of practice this week!

See you Thursday with Bennett and Peter's team trophy - way to represent guys!

WEAK DIAGONALS AND THE POWER OF THE ANNOYING QUEEN CHECK!

First let us take a look at a game that is over in two moves! And all because of a weak diagonal and the POWER OF THE ANNOYING QUEEN CHECK!

Now for a three mover...

Annoying Queen checks can not only be used to deliver checkmate but they can more often be used to win unprotected pieces. L.P.D.O. = Lose Pieces Drop Off! As in the following example:

These were three of the many puzzles that we worked through today during our chess lesson. And now these three examples are here for all of our players to use as a review about the POWER OF THE ANNOYING QUEEN CHECK!

Enjoy - Chess Coach Sean Tobin.

THE NEXT TWO ASCF EVENTS... Qualifiers for the GOVERNOR'S CUP!

Ok, there they are folks! These two events are the first two of four different qualifiers for the GOVERNOR'S CUP being held on April 24th and 25th. Chess Coach Sean.

THE BIG BOARD ONE GAME FROM OUR LADDER TODAY!

Here it is - Peter and Bennett's latest battle royal!

I had to put a chess clock on this game at the end of our meeting as both players were doing the right thing - TAKING THEIR TIME! Well done Peter and Bennett! They both took their time and that is far more important to me than the result. Peter won this game but they will meet again - soon enough!

This Saturday though both of our Champ section players will compete at the "SCOTTSDALE CLASSIC" - as a team! I am looking forward to seeing how they will do there playing together in the same section again!

Congrats Peter!

Hello Chargers!

PETER took 1st in the Under 600 section of the MONTHLY FRIDAY NIGHT SCHOLASTIC OPEN held down at the chess Emporium this past Friday night the 12th of March. Way to represent Cherokee Peter! Congratulations!

For cross table please visit HERE. Another excellent showing from Peter and another first place trophy to add to his growing collection! Of course now he will have to play in the open as his rating is now 603 - three points over the 600 barrier! This means that he and Bennett Katz are officially a "CHAMP" section two player team! I sense team trophies in Cherokee's future!!
