"B" - Double dose of shared first place!

The "B" - our K-6 CHAMP super hero - shared first place in two completely different types of tournaments this month. A very proud and duly impressed Coach Sean has taken note - and so should you!

At this past Saturday's "THE FALL CLASSIC" the "B" shared 1st place in the K-6 CHAMP section with his score of 3.5 from 4. He took second place on tie breaks but all three players tying weighed in at 3.5 points by tournaments end.

Then the "B" put in a consistent and constant effort at the Chess Emporium's Month long TUESDAY NIGHT STANDARD OPEN sharing first place in an adult tournament with 3 from 4 points! On his route to victory he even beat a fellow ASCF chess coach of mine! His only loss came at the hands of veteran player and ASCF chess coach Denny - rated 2000 USCF ELO! The "B" secured his share of first place this past Tuesday with a last round win against Tuesday night regular Berry Becker.

Congratulations - it has been quite a month for certain Cherokee Chargers at the local chess tournaments! I am impressed and I look forward to their future games!

A game from Coach Sean - Enjoy!

While a recent theme for some Cherokee Chargers has been Scholastic stars defeating adult players - I would like to think at least a little chess wisdom counted for something in my particular case. Though when that day finally comes that I lose a competitive chess game against a former or current student I will be able to tip my King over gracefully as I will be comforted by the knowledge that I helped one of my students become quite good at chess - among the many things they are interested in and quite accomplished at.

This was a recent game of mine where I defeated a local Scholastic star during an important tournament game. This event would be the one that put just up and over the 2000 barrier!
It was played in the Southern California Open on the 6th of September. A fine game showing how to exchange down into a won King and pawn endgame. - Chess Coach Sean.

TEAM SCHILLINGER at the "RUMBLE"!

Congratulations to team Schillinger!

Jack Schillinger took 1st place in the Kindergarten section, while his brother Joey score a very respectable 2 from 4 in the K-3 U600 - which is actually quite impressive because most youngsters do not win ANY games at their first tournament!

Peter Schillinger took first place K-3 CHAMP with a tough last round victoy. His final score was 3.5 from four - the only draw being the one that he had with his chess friend Rick Sun from Santan Elementary earlier on during the event.

Now if we could get a few more players there - with or without the last name Schillinger : ) - then we could potentially field a team! Who is interested? Let me know as I will be sending out the club email later on this week.
